Size: Finished Afghan measures approx. 42" x 54".

Materials

 PEACHES & CRÈME, Article 930HC, 100% cotton 4-ply yarn

(1 lb. Cone): two cones each of Color # 62 Emerald for MC and Color # 609 Victorian Christmas for CC. Size 5/F aluminum crochet hook or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge

Granny Square rnds 1-4 = 4 1/2" square. Take time to check your gauge.

Instructions

Granny Square (make 48)

Beginning In the center with CC, ch 4; join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring; (ch 2, 3 dc in ring) 3 times, ch 2; join with a sl st in 3^rd ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 2: S1 st in next 2 dc, in ch-2 sp [sl st, ch 3 (counts as dc)], in same sp (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in same sp, ch 1. In each of next 3 ch-2 sps (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 1); join with a sl st in 3^rd ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 3: S1 st in next 2 dc, in ch-2 sp [sl st, ch 3 (counts as dc), in same sp (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). * Ch 1, 3 dc in ch-1 sp, ch 1 ** , in next ch-2 sp (3 dc, ch 2,3 dc); rep from * around ending last rep at**. Join with a sl st in 3^rd ch of beg ch-3.

Rnd 4: S1 st in next 2 dc, in ch-2 sp [sl st, ch 3 (counts as dc)], In same sp (2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc). * (Ch 1, 3 dc in next ch.1 sp) twice, ch 1**, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp; rep from * around ending last rep at**;join and fasten off.

Rnd 5: With the RS facing, join green with a sl st in any ch-2 corner sp, ch 1. In same sp as joining, (sc, ch 1, sc).  *(Sk 1 dc, ch 1, sC in next dc, sk 1 dc,ch 1, sc in next sp) 3 times, ch 1, sk 1 dc, sc in next dc, ch 1

Finishing

Holding 2 squares with RS's together, join green with a sl st in back lps of corner sc. (Ch 1, sl st in back lp of next sc or ch-1) across - 25 total sl sts. Fasten off. Join squares with 6 across and 8 down.

Border

With the RS facing, join green with a sl st in any comer sc. Ch 1, sc in same sc as joining. (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 12 times - 13 total sc; turn.

Row 2: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 12 times; turn.

Row 3: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 11 times; turn.

Row 4: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 10 times; turn.

 Row 5: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 9 times; turn.

Row 6: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 8 times; turn.

Row 7: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 7 times; turn.

Row 8: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 6 times; turn.

Row 9: (Ch 1, sk 1 sc, sc in next sp) 5 times; turn.

Add the Border to each square around entire afghan. Weave in loose ends on WS of fabric. The center Granny Square will puff slightly.
