Moss Textured
Checkerboard Cloth with Appliqué Leaves.
Supplies:
Yarn: 1 Skein Peaches &
Crème Knitting Worsted #1- White or #4- Ecru
Leaves : small amount of Elmore Pisgah Country Cotton Cabled Article 940
or Mercerized Perle Cotton Article 960 #45 Orange, #25 Bright Yellow, 61
Teak or colors of choice.
Needles:
1 Pair size 7 (US) single and
double point needles
1 Pair size 5 ( US ) double point needles - appliques
Crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Abbreviations:
B= Border Stitches
Moss Stitch: x2+1 stitch
Row 1: P1,*k1,p1* Row 2: K1,*p1,k1* it is a broken rib
KF7B; Knit into the front and back of stitch ( increase stitch )
x: times section in brackets is repeated.
SSK: slip slip knit ( slip stitches knit wise )
sl2togkwise: slip 2 stitches together onto right needle as to knit
sl1: slip one stitch to right needle as to knit
Psso- pass slipped stitch over stitch knitted
Yo: yarn over needle ( increase stitch )
Bo: bind off
Cloth:
Cast on: 48 stitches
Start border in garter or moss stitch. Knit border for one inch begin
pattern below.
Rows 1-10: B4,*k7,P7*, B4.
Rows 11,13,15,17 & 19: B4,k1, moss stitch for 7 sts*,B4.
Rows 12,14,16,18,&20: B4,*p7,mosss stitch for 7 sts*,B4.
Repeat these rows till border distance away from desired length. Knit
border, bind off all stitches.
Leaves:
Cast on: 3 sts on double point
needles. Knit I-cord for 3-4" for hanging
cord. Other leaves knit 1/2" I-cord for stem.
Row 1: (kf&b) X3 ( 6 sts)
Row 2 and all even rows: purl
Row 3: ( k1,Kf&B) x3
Row 5: k3,yo,k1,yo,k3
Row 7: k3,yo,k5,yo,k3
Row 9: bo3,k2,yo,k1,yo,k6
Row 10: bo3,p8
Row 11: k3,yo,k3,yo,k3
Row 13: k3,yo,k3,yo,k3.
Row 15: bo3,k2,yo,k1,yo,k6.
Row 16: bo3.p8.
Row 17 k3,yo,k3,yo,k3
Row 19: k3,yo,k5,yo,k1,yo,k3
Row 21: bo4,(k1,yo) x2,k6
Row 22: bo4,p7.
Row 23: ssk,yo,sl2togkwise-k1-p2sso,yo,k2tog.
Row 25: ssk,k1,k2tog.
Row 27: sl1-k2tog-psso.
Fasten off weave in ends.
I Cord: knit three stitches, slide stitches to other end of the needle
without turning the work. With thread on the left, keep it behind stitches
and knit the three stitches. Continue this process until desired length is
achieved.
Wash appliqués and
block. Sew leaves to cloth, tack down the edges. Use thread that matches the
cloth.

cloths in mugs with apple cider mix or
spice tea mix.
